20th March 2020

Dear Parents/ carers

As a country, we all need to do what we can to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus and you will already be aware that nationally all schools are closing today. The government has however asked schools from Monday onwards to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend. We are being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children – children who are vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.

Many parents working in these key worker sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home and the government has asked that If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

Advice for parents is available on the following link.

On Monday 23rd March 2020, Leicester Islamic Academy will be partially open, providing support for those children who cannot remain at home. We will be providing a limited timetable of activities.

For children coming in to school as of Monday 23rd March 2020, the following measures/precautions must be taken:

  • Children not to come in uniform (please dress modestly)– we recommend freshly washed clothes to be worn daily to minimise the risk and spread of infection.
  • No hot lunches will be available so children should bring water bottles, fruit and packed lunches from home.
  • Children should also bring back their learning packs which were sent home.
  • Up to date contact details for family members must be available within school and emergency contact details should your child become poorly/exhibit symptoms of contracting coronavirus.
  • If you become unwell with coronavirus symptoms, you must immediately contact school and arrange for collection of your child.
  • Social distancing must be enforced whilst your child is not in school if we are to prevent/minimise the spread of infection.
  • School must be informed if you no longer fall within the critical worker list or you have been asked to self-isolate.
  • Thorough hand washing to take place at home just before leaving the home.
  • Children must be dropped off at 8:25am and picked up at 2:40pm from the school hall.

We will also be offering similar arrangements during the Easter holiday break. If we do make any changes, we will send you further information as soon as possible via email.

Yours sincerely
