The Early Years setting at LIA is a warm, safe, and stimulating environment where young children can learn, play, and grow. Children's individual development is supported through engaging activities that spark curiosity and build confidence with the support and guidance of our dedicated Early Years team.

    A Welcome From

    Early Years Team

Assalamualaykum and welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Leicester Islamic Academy!

In Islam, knowledge and teaching is the foundation of upbringing, and they are accompanied with discipline and self-improvement. According to religious teachings, the best time for education is the childhood period. Therefore, the most important right of a child is to provide the environment for their education and training.

    The EYFS Statutory Framework states:

“All children deserve the care and support they need to have the best start in life. Children learn and develop at a faster rate from birth to five years old than at any other time in their lives, so their experiences in Early Years have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning provide the foundation children need to fulfil their full potential”.

“The EYFS promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the right foundation for good future progress through school and life”.

At LIA, we are committed to giving children the best start possible at the beginning of their school journey. Our aim is to create a warm, safe, and fun environment, where children can thrive and feel right at home.

At LIA, the learning environment consists of child-led learning, guided learning, and learning through play and exploration.

Child-led learning encourages children to take charge of their own education, fostering independence and confidence.

Guided learning can provide the support children need to explore new concepts while ensuring they feel secure.

Learning through play is essential, as it makes education fun and engaging, allowing children to discover and experiment in a safe environment. Encouraging exploration will help them develop critical thinking skills and creativity.

A combination of all of the above learning environments creates a rich and enjoyable learning experience for all children, and helps them to grow into confident, independent learners.

Listed below are the exciting themes we have planned for the year:

      Nursery Reception
Autumn Term 1A All About Me All about Me
Autumn Term 1B Colours  Tales from the Past/Present
Spring Term 2A People Who Help Us Transport and Occupation
Spring Term 2B Animals  Space/ Ramadhan

At the end of Nursery and Reception, parents will be provided with an overview of children’s progress in all seven areas of learning. This gives parents a clear understanding of their children’s progress and next steps/targets for the next academic year.

At LIA, Early Years staff are here to support children’s development every step of the way and look forward to partnering with parents to help them to succeed and reach their full potential.

  • Thank you for your continuous support and for providing a safe environment for our children to learn in.

    LIA Parent 2025

  • We absolutely love Leicester Islamic Academy. Mashallah amazing work, you are all doing. May Almighty bless you all.

    LIA Parent 2025

  • The school aims for pupils to be ‘British Muslim Citizens of the UK who give back to their society’. It does this well. Pupils develop a consistently strong understanding of fundamental British values and the important role that they are expected to play within these.

    Ofsted Report 2025

  • The school is happy and cohesive. Relationships between staff and pupils are positive. Pupils are well-cared for. In return, they behave well. The school expects pupils to achieve highly. By the time that they leave school, this expectation is realised.

    Ofsted Report 2025

  • Staff, pupils and the vast majority of parents and carers are positive about the school. One parent summed up many when they said, ‘The school provides a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel safe, happy, and encouraged to do their best.’
